Book Cover and Interior Page Design
The design for the book cover of the novel “The Murder That Never Was” by famed author Andrea Kane, aimed to convey the masterly dynamism and compelling style of the story within. The picture had to truly be “worth a thousand words”, while simultaneously retaining a simplistic form and increasing on-shelf standout appeal.
While brainstorming we all agreed that the best way to express the essence of the book—suspense, tension and vigor—would be using a “bloody” red background. The frightened girl’s silhouette and the gun reveal some aspects of the plot and the mismatched, “wavering” letters around the gun foreshadow the intensity of the story.
